 Process of Cloisonné

Cloisonné Lapel Pins begin with creating the die of your lapel pin design. Then a sheet of copper is stamped using the die, creating an impression of your design in the metal, while leaving raised outlines that will hold each color in place. Shape-cutting molds are made separately, and the pins are cut out to the outline of the design shape.

To finish your Cloisonné lapel pins, each color is hand-filled with a powdered glass-like mixture.  The pins are then fired at 800 degrees centigrade in a kiln, which melts the glass into the recesses; once done, more color is added, and then the pins are fired again. This two-step process ensures bleeding of colors does not occur.

After completing the colors and cooling the pin is then ground with a series of stones, fire the pins for the last time to make surface of pins lustrous. Finally, the lapel pins are individually hand-polished and plated in either gold or silver.
